Wonder if it’s a good idea… Maybe something for glissers, one day…

Home exchange for surfers?
Published December 28, 2007 business development , random ideas , surf directory 0 CommentsI get a little antsy everytime I’m in a queue, and especially when it can be avoided.
One example - how come there’s no paid-for alternatives at passport controls? If I pay £300 for a flight somewhere, I wouldn’t mind paying an extra £5, if it meant I wouldn’t have to spend the usual 30 minutes queuing.
I’m sure lots of people think the same, so there should be a business there… But homeland security doesn’t seem like an industry that’s ripe for competition, unfortunately.
A Brilliant Idea
Published July 26, 2007 office space , private life , random ideas , sailing 4 CommentsA friend of my told me about his plans to sail around the world a while back. I suggested that instead of “just” hitting standard destinations along the route, he should visit the best surf spots around the globe.
Westcoast of Europe (UK, France, Spain, Portugal), Morocco, Canary Islands, Cap Verde, Caribean, Panama, Costa Rica, Australia, NZ…All of them are along the route most sailers take, and full of world class surf spots.
The trip would probably take 2-3 years to do. And at least 2 years of preparations. But what a trip it would be!
I wonder if he can get back to Monday mornings in the office after such a trip.
I think I’ve found a concept that would work, but right now I don’t have time to do it. Well I have time, but I spend it on other things.
What I would like to do is to arrange weekends of “jamcamps” in central London. Get 20 decent amateur musicians together for rehearsals on Saturday and Sunday, and then do live gig on Sunday night in a pub / club / restaurant. No point in sending people away to remote islands, as originally planned (thanks Demian and Oscar for good feedback).
I’ve spoken to a few companies with studios in central London and the costs for a studio is not more than 5-10 GBP / hour (including equipment). Which makes me believe that there’s a real opportunity - I’m sure the demand is there.
If I live and have the health I hope to do it one day.
